Lazy loading.
Deferring images and other heavy content until the visitor scrolls near them, so the first screen loads faster.
Why it matters.
It helps on long pages with many images and hurts when applied to the main image at the top — that one should load immediately, because it is usually what the Largest Contentful Paint measurement is timing. The other trap is lazy-loading text or primary content: search engines may not see content that only appears after an interaction.
How to check it yourself.
Load your home page and watch the main image at the top. If it appears a beat after everything else, it is being lazy-loaded when it should not be.
